Throughout life, experiences can alter the way we feel about ourselves and this can lead to a diminishing of our self image, self esteem and confidence.
This can be due to a deliberate act of unkindness, bullying, dominance, being humiliated in front of others, or, a situation where you may have felt out of your depth to cope as well as you would have liked, possibly a circumstance where you have felt unwelcome, a time where you have felt a sense of not being good enough, different from others, rejected, a sense of failure.
Any of these factors can result in a loss of confidence and self-esteem and bring with it distorted and escalating feelings of self-doubt, inadequacy, powerlessness, self-loathing, even self-sabotage.
Counselling helps to identify the source for these feelings and to provide skills and support that can stem the repetitive patterns, dispel the distorted view, reclaim self-empowerment and perspective, whilst working on healthy approaches to a happy and meaningful life.
